Four programs.
One mission.
Mountain Valor empowers veterans and their families across rural Virginia by connecting them with the benefits, resources, and support they've earned. We go where they are: libraries, care facilities, community centers, and living rooms. Rural veterans shouldn't have to fight the system alone. We help with everything from explaining VA claims processes and connecting veterans with accredited experts, to healthcare enrollment, housing, survivor benefits, end-of-life planning, and checking on elderly veterans who've fallen through the cracks. Connection first, paperwork second.
Community Connection is the backbone of the mission, linking veterans and their families with trusted local support through direct, in-person outreach and coordinated partnerships. Mountain Valor meets veterans where they already are: libraries, community centers, senior care facilities, and local events, providing education, resource navigation, and follow-up in rural communities where access is limited.
Through active leadership in the Floyd County Nonprofit Strategy Group, New River Valley Veterans Leadership Council, and the Roanoke VA Suicide Prevention Collaborative, we build partnerships that close service gaps and improve coordination across the region. Mountain Valor also serves on the board of directors for the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce and is an active member of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. Community Connection allows us to identify needs quickly, guide families through complex systems, and provide consistent support.
Whether assisting a widow with survivor benefits or supporting a caregiver in crisis, the program ensures no one navigates alone.
This program brings trusted veteran support directly into local medical facilities, nursing homes, assisted living centers, and rehabilitation clinics across rural Virginia. Many aging veterans face mobility, transportation, and access barriers that prevent them from reaching traditional resource events. Mountain Valor goes to them instead.
Working alongside care teams and facility staff, we provide on-site education, benefits navigation, and caregiver support, ensuring veterans and their families get accurate information and real help where they already receive care.
The 2025–2026 focus includes expanding outreach visits, training care staff on veteran-specific programs, and building referral pathways for caregivers and survivors.
This program focuses on educating rural veterans, caregivers, and community partners through accessible, plain-language communication. Mountain Valor produces and distributes educational content through its podcast, blog, social media, and community talks, so veterans know what resources exist and how to access them.
Topics include VA and state benefits, caregiver support, suicide prevention resources, and rural access issues. These efforts reach audiences who may not attend in-person events, breaking down barriers caused by geography, stigma, or lack of information.
The program also amplifies trusted voices within the veteran community, ensuring messages come from people with lived experience, not just institutions.
Mountain Valor Fest is our flagship annual outreach event, held each fall in Floyd, VA, to connect rural veterans and their families with vital resources, community, and support. The all-day event features a 9/11 remembrance ceremony, live music, food trucks, kid-friendly activities, and veteran and caregiver resource providers.
MVF creates a welcoming, no-pressure environment where veterans and their families can access benefits, build supportive networks, and feel truly seen.
