Mountain Valor Veteran Services is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Floyd, Virginia. We serve rural veterans, caregivers, and military families across western and southwestern Virginia. This privacy policy explains how we handle information you share with us through our website, forms, and donation process.

What Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, including:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Mailing address (collected through our donation platform for tax receipts and thank you letters)
  • County of residence (collected on some forms to help us connect you with relevant local resources)
  • Donation information (see note below on payment processing)

We do not collect sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers, medical records, or military service records through this website.

Donations and Payment Processing

Donations made through our website are processed by Mightycause, a third-party fundraising platform. Mountain Valor does not collect or store your credit card or banking information. All payment data is handled directly by Mightycause according to their own privacy and security practices. You can review Mightycause's privacy policy at mightycause.com.

We do receive a record of your name, email, mailing address, and donation amount so we can send you a tax receipt, a thank you letter, and maintain accurate donor records.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Send you the Mountain Valor newsletter and program updates, if you've opted in
  • Respond to requests for information or support
  • Connect you with relevant resources based on your county or situation
  • Acknowledge donations and provide tax receipts
  • Improve our outreach and understand who we're serving

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.

Third-Party Services

Our website uses the following third-party services, which may collect certain data as part of their normal operation:

  • HubSpot — our customer relationship management platform, used to store contact information and send emails
  • Mightycause — our donation processing platform
  • YouTube — embedded videos on our site are served by YouTube and subject to Google's privacy policy

Email Communications

If you sign up for the Mountain Valor newsletter or submit a form on our site, you may receive occasional emails from us about veteran resources, events, and updates from the field. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. You can opt out at any time by clicking that link, and we will remove you from our mailing list promptly.

  • Ask what information we have on file about you
  • Request that we correct inaccurate information

We take reasonable steps to protect the information you share with us. Our website is hosted on HubSpot's secure platform and all data transmissions are encrypted. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard practices.

Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please contact us at support@mtnvalor.org and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of our website after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
